Mini Airboats but not mini on fun!
Choosing a prop.
You can click on all images for the full size image.
There as so many different ways to go with the prop for your boat. The only difference may be the depth of your wallet.
I researched many different props and watched as fellow airboaters tried different props as well. In the end I chose to got with a reliable company and a prop that could be adjusted as I changed the setup on my boat.
Assembling the 52" Ultra Prop by Competition Aircraft
First lay out all the components of the package. Be sureto Skim over the instructions before you start, it will help you look ahead while you are doing the actual assembly.
The first part is the hub, choose a hub half and lay it in front of you.
Next is the pitch blocks, Ultra Prop uses these pitch blocks to adjust the pitch of your blades. The pitch blocks are made in 1 degree increments from 8 to 18 degrees. Be sure to get the pitch block seated in the space provided, it will make the assembly easier in later steps.
Next are the blades, check your rotation and follow the instructions for your setup. I have a left hand rotation so that's what we will be folowing here. Choose the correct bolts and place them, two per blade, in the holes provided then keeping the flat side of the blade toward you put the blade on over the bolts.
Put the rest of the blades on then put the halves of the pitch blocks over the prop end. Keeping all the gaps closed makes it easier to get the other hub lalf on in the next step.
Now just slide the other half of the hub over the bolts, put the lock nuts on and torque them to the specs. The prop is now ready to mount on your motor Flange.
I estimated my Horse Power because of the modifications to my motor and I underestimated the figure so I had to order new pitch blocks. Bob at Competition Aircraft was very helpful and sent me a selection of blocks around my pitch to experiment with allowing me to return what I didn't use. I am very satisfied both with the prop and the service from Competition Aircraft.
Caution: If you experiment with your pitch you it would be best to repalace the lock nuts after using them. I did not replace them but I did use LockTite to be safe after I was done experimenting. I ran the prop for about an hour then rechecked the torque and use LockTite.
If you decide to use an Ultra Prop please let Bob know that you were referrred by Mini Airboat Association.
