GTS225 post got me thinking too.
Is there a reason rudders are one or two Large pieces?
Would several small ones with the same square inches work as well?
Kinda like louvered blinds .
They would be more compact and not stick out as far.

Sorry, I edited your post by mistake but I returned it to it's original configuration...That's why there's a notation that it was edited by me..
I'm sure at some point there's a trade-off between air speed, deflection, weight, and other aspects that aren't coming to mind..
Most really small minis have just one rudder that will essentually block half the air on one side or the other when swinging it...Think about how big a single rudder would need to be with the bigger props and cages to get the same result...
The weight savings alone when using two smaller rudders compared to one huge rudder and it's support system is the biggest factor IMO...And lets face it, the more rudders you add the more chances for parts/linkages to go wrong ...
But to directly answer your question yes...IF you planned it carefully you could add multiple rudders and get the job done with a smaller profile back there...

Srry if this it not the spot to post this but relocate if needed would there be a difference between thick rudders and thin rudders?

We had a few discussions about the airfoil type rudders and the simple metal plate/sheet type...The general consensus was at our power level there wouldn't be much of a difference between the two...No doubt the airfoil type looks cool but I'm guessing the flat rudder will keep the wind moving better for our relatively low HP engines....

Ok because the ones that are on my boat are like 5”wide and had a thought that if it was skinny i whould have a bit more push
