I went looking today for sprockets and chain...
Is 3000 rpm to fast for chain drive?
It is according to My suppliers.

I'm thinking a 525 o ring chain and two 29 tooth ( 6") sprockets.
The reduction is the belt part of the drive.
There will be about 25" center to center on the chain part and prop.

If I could find a "supplier " I would look at something like a serpentine belt .
HUMMMM ?
If you use chain what would you use?

3000 rpm doesn't exactly determine the speed of the chain a sprocket with 50teeth turning 3000 rpm will move the chain twice as fast as a sprocket with 25 teeth 3000rpm. As with everything else go as big as you can on the chain size no such thing as too strong. How many rpms does the wheel of a motorcycle turn when it's going 100mph

I'm going with a 20 tooth sprocket about 3 1/2" on each end. and 525 o ring chain.

I think you should be fine my old Honda has a chain drive I think it is the same size but without the o rings it had an oil bath but the motor sprocket is 15 teeth prop sprocket is 30 teeth and I was turning 5500 rpms almost all the time sometime up to 6000 when my rocker arms stayed together but I never had a problem with the chain

Do you have any designs of the gear reduction case ??? Will it be an oil bath {inclosed} or open ???

Actually

It is a Snowmobile clutch/torque converter drive , belt drive.
From the secondary clutch shaft is where the chain will start.
The Reduction Is variable starting with 3 to 1 and goes up to
.70 to 1 as the HP/RPM allow.
The chain drive part is 1 to 1 and will be open with only a guard.

OK I was'nt sure if you were still planning on using the clutch...I'd still have some type of guard in place to shield the chain if possible..

I plan a guard for both the chain and belt. I will be on the prop side of the whole setup. So a personal safety stand point is not as big.
But I would rather not have a broken chain or a thrown belt hit the prop.
I will have a guard I just wont be water tight . I'm thinking something out of "expanded" aluminum maybe.
