    Rivets any insight ?

I have to get a little construction job finished on My house first.
    A cantilevered closet.
Then I'm going to start my cat hulls.
I'm using epoxy with an hour workable window.
I'll have the holes all drilled to keep the joint clean.
To prep the "AL" I'll sand them with 120 paper and clean it with Acetone
and rinse with distilled water asper instruction .
I have an air hammer and set and a buck.
Any tricks ? How many rivets ? Ext ?

Hopefully Doozit will see your inquiry and give some insight on what he's found for his 3rd build...

    Well !
    I pussyed out.!
I'm having both the hulls 3 pieces welded together as well as the corners.
An extra $150 for peace of mind.
I did some tests and I'm very confident the epoxy would hold.
My riveting on the other hand...
I will glue and rivet all the supports and front "Rake" on, as well as the tubing around the top, ext.

Riveting isn't really all that bad. Lot of drilling and counter sinking holes and clecos but it ain't bad. Both boats I have are riveted and most boats down here are riveted and run some big hp behind them. Welded boats are great as well just remember that welds can Crack and yes rivets can leak....but you can tighten a rivet fairly eaisily. Sorry I didnt get to this post sooner.

That's a good price...It's not worth the time and effort to do it yourself if you've got an experienced welder that treats you right especially on the bigger stuff like that... Dont forget to post some pics when you get a chance...
