    Are these calculations right ?

    Are these calculations right ?

    Boat Displacement:

    Waterline Width(Beam) in Ft. 4.332 =52"
    Waterline Length(LWL) in Ft. 14.666 = 176"
Depth of hull in the water(Draft) in In. 3.6

Displacement in Lbs, freshwater 1125 Lbs

    Boat Draft:
    Waterline Width(Beam) in Ft. 4.33 =26"x 2
    Waterline Length(LWL) in Ft. 14.666 = 88"x2
Weight of Boat, Motor, Contents (Displacement) in Lbs 1200

    Draft in Inches, freshwater 3.6

    They don
t seem right to me. The pontoon would be heavier and draft more water. on a pontoon you have two more sides and most likely a top to add to the weight. Considering they are the same material the single hull should be lighter.

I used 1200 pounds for the weight, just a guess right now .
cant imagine I being much more.
There is no top per say. I'm going to fill most the cat with foam and cover it with water prof canvas.
I plan on sitting I the cats, 18" high and make a cockpit kinda thing on each side.
The "top" dimension each is 31" x 10 2" and make the boat 7 ' wide.
some thing like 21q 'of closed cell foam to float 1200 lb

Re: Are these calculations right ?

Sounds heavy, are you going to have a full floor in it between pontoons?

The foam will not add anything to floatation just weight.

No deck, expanded metal and canvas for walking only.
won't the foam ad flotation if the Cats filled with water?

    something to think about
with the foam, after a while if and when water gets in the foam filled area, with out proper ventilation, it will soak up the water, and the smell isn't that great,
I have dealt with commercial fishing boats that have used spray foam to line the inside of the fish holds, to help with insulation they have put a epoxy paint over the foam, it will last a few years, but man, when it cracks, and it gets water impregnated, the smell isn't so great after a while, and it never really dries out.

Yes they will in the event of a sinking. I would rather a sealed pontoon rather that the foam. The foam is good for a year or two then just adds to the weight.
