    fresh water hunter's hull build

    Well Its been a long time coming but got some material and here we go i just want to thank every one for there build post's it has helped me

    What are the specks on the Aluminum and size/length of boat?
    How tall are the gunnels/sides?

    it is 12 ft long and 5 ft bottom with 20 in gunnels 76 wide at top of transom all .125th. aluminum

    Great job !!! Looking good....Glad to see you're getting your project started...It's a great feeling getting the pieces welded together and have the overall shape formed does'nt it ???

    it sure does. ran out of wire burnt my last tip off to the weld shop for you guys that weld aluminum i have been using maxel 4943 wire that suff is great flows like 4043 but but way stronger i wont us 4043 once my stock is gone

    You can save some of the tips. Just take a file lightly over the tip. Most times you can reuse the tip after you pull out the wire. If they are bad you can't save them. I rarely burn a tip any more but I did go through a few when I started.

    I use to do a lot of aluminium work in my fab shop , a little trick on the tips.
    Run a flat file over the end ,like pappee said , pull out the wire . If it leaves a ring or a piece of wire in the tip ,get a set of micro drill bits . Drill out the tip and then smooth out with a set of torch tip cleaners. I have reused hundreds of tips done this way

    Coming along nicely...I'm not sure I'd go through the trouble of welding my rudder back edges if I had to do it over...I'd probably just rivet a center piece between the two halves ...It was a big pain welding them like I did...
