I saw you posted on txriverrats thread some questions about size boat and thickness. No disrespect and not trying to sound harsh but lets try to keep his thread for his build so it dont get derailed ya know .

Ok so as far as size id say around 12 x 6 would be good. A little longer wouldnt hurt much. If you have lots of rocks id go with .125 aluminum

Well, Xmas finally got here! Here are some photos of my engine and a photo of the fat man. Also some photos of some of my friends in the back yard. The engine arrived in perfect condition even with some extras. It also has the papers for the USDD pickling process. It is a -4, made in 8/90.
Could not be prouder!! I sure hope our Northern friends are enjoying their cool weather, 103 in my garage today!

It also came with a manual, big help! Popping the flywheel off was so easy, it is scary. Now I am concentrating on making a engine stand.

Congrats on the delivery! It takes me back to when I received my engine last winter and I was equally thrilled. I put another hour on my boat today and I am thrilled to death with it ... you will find that the engine has a real throaty sound much like it's bigger continental cousin. Looks like you got some extras but you'll probably want to go with 12 volt sending units and an electric tach, not that the cable driven one won't work, it's just more difficult (& weighty) to deal with.

    Nice racks on your friends!

Sweet !!! I see you've got a helper hanging around the garage too... It's going to be 81* tomorrow so yes it feels like we're getting away with something up here....I saw where July was the hottest overall around the globe since they've been recording the temps but you would'nt know that from the weather we've been having this year..

My -4 was a 7/90 engine so yours is a month newer... I like the spin-on filter and the slickmag on these... Now you've got some toys to play with...

Yes, definitely going with the 12v and electric tack. I have a lot to learn with this build and I really appreciate all of the input from you guys. I am researching for aluminum cost now and finalizing my hull design.

I'm not sure about your location but eastern metal supply has place in Houston. That's where a few of us got materials.

Thanks Papee! I have a daughter in Houston, so that would make an easy trip for me. We are about 3.5 hrs. away.

My helper hanging from the ceiling is a windshield stop for my bride to keep her away from my storage cabinets. I really like this engine, I think it was the best choice for me.

    Re: SWAMP FOX/krwsr

Hull design and drawings are completed. I made a full size mockup of the hull side to prove out design; worked out great. Getting the engine cleaned up, primed, and painted. I wanted "Glow in the Dark" green, but this is close as I can get. Looks like the same color Doozit is using. Material and spool gun is ordered; waiting.

    Re: SWAMP FOX/krwsr

I think thats little on the heavy side papee. I weighed my engine and it is right at 135 lb. Didnt weigh my two to one but I cant see it adding that much. Now add stand, starter, and flexplate then its getting up there. I think I weighed my stand at around 30 lb. The starter and flexplate around 10 lb. But the bare engine is around 135-140 lb.

Quick question on your mock up. Is that arch for the bow or the transom?? I think that might be a little sharp for the front maybe....

    Re: SWAMP FOX/krwsr

It looks to be about the same as my red boat. It does slap the rapids some a splash but its real stable when you're on the bow. It'd be good for frogging and one person.

I keep forgetting where these boats are going to be used. Yeah I would guess in rougher waters that a rake like that would be good. Im used to running in flat still waters where you can get away with less radius in the bow. Keep up the good work.
