    Re: SWAMP FOX/krwsr

Budget has not allowed me to purchase material yet, but it will next month. I have been concentrating on the engine buying gauges, new carburetor, and working on my rudders.

OK, I am back on track: Ran out of money so I had to get more cash before I could proceed; also it has been too cold for me to work in my garage. I never intended for this project to get done immediately, just putting it together when funds were available. I have my sheet aluminum ready to be formed, but I want to wait for warmer weather before I start welding.

A welder will warm you up!

It has been nasty here. A few more weeks though and it will be better.

Is your engine ready to go?

Hey froghunter! You have done a great job on your rig. Weather has been nasty here as well, but I am getting back in gear. Engine is now ready to go; got all of my gages hooked up, and they all work. Now I need to get the hull welded and go from there.

Yeah, we are OK, but had two close calls with tornados touching down. Good news, Lake Travis is up 38ft from the down 44.

Finally got material ordered for my hull, getting the forming lined up, so if all goes well I can start tacking it up soon. Your rig is really looking good!!

    Re: SWAMP FOX/krwsr

It all begins with two sheets of aluminum and some structural T's. I decided to follow Corky's lead and remove some weight from the T's. I am using 3/16 x 1 1/2 cutting down the center post to 1". I also got the lube stick Corky recommended and it works well. (Thanks) I set up my table saw with a carbide blade, using the fence and a guide block it cuts with little effort. I do recommend a thick shirt, face shield and gloves. Chips come off hot.

Hi Kenneth !! Yes, those chip fly off hot and go everywhere including your shoes/socks...Even with cleaning up often I had to have a dedicated pair of shoes that did'nt travel into the house the chips stuck to the soles...I used a 3M full faced shield throughout most of the aluminum cutting procedure... Glad to see you making progress !!!

    Re: SWAMP FOX/krwsr

Taking baby steps right now: Using Corky's example, I made trammel points out of one of my T's. I used shelf tapping sheet metal screws which gave me a good point to scribe the radius. I held down the pivot end with a clamp over the screw, and the flat side of the T made it easy to create the arch.

Looks good Kenneth...You know the old saying.."Measure twice and cut once !" That peticular radius point is out there quite a way as you've found out...A little progress at a time is better than no progress...I like to think the process through until I'm comfortable with it...
