    Infrared Thermometer

    All,

Based on Buster's idea, I ordered an Infrared Thermometer off of Ebay.

The one that I ordered was a General IRT207, priced at (I forget the exact price) about $20.00 plus shipping (which was about $5.00). All told it was $25.00 and some cents.

I've only tested it at lower temps, where I had another thermometer to compare it to. So far, it seems to be right on the mark.

    This thing has a -4 to 605 degree F, or -20 degree to 320 degree C range.

It's cheaply priced, but should do the job.

    Thanks Buster,

    Duane

    Duane,

You're quite welcome. No tool box should be without one.

I just wish I would have had mine back when I was doing a lot of car engine changes. Seems every time I started one up the first time, I would have to wait almost forever for the cooling fan to come on, and we could only guess if it was too hot or not.

P.S. I hope Earl doesn't beat up up too bad

Infrared thermometers are a cool tool. Had an RC truck once upon a time and we used it to check engine temp to see if we were running too lean or rich.....It was slick!

    Buster,

I think it'll come in handy. You're right, no tool box should be without one.

Fortunately, Earl's eye stayed about 75 miles off of the coast. It made a direction change towards the NE just in time. The Outer Banks took a beating, but it was pretty much a non-event here in Wilson.

You never can tell about a hurricane. Back in 1999, Floyd didn't look like it would be a problem. Yet it caused MAJOR, MAJOR flooding in Eastern North Carolina.
