    Mule Engine

    Hi all,

I've "known" for many years that the
    M274 MECHANICAL MULE

also known as "Military Mule" or "Army Mule"

used the 4A084 engine. I ran across one of them this weekend, and discovered that I was wrong. (again)

Instead, it used the 2A042 engine. Not your normal 2A042, but one specially made for the "Mule".

We learn something new every day, huh?

I just thought I'd share this tidbit of info with you guys.

    (Inquiring minds want to know)

If you want to learn more about "mules", here's a good place to start.

    Hey Duane
Look to me like you could use that pulley on the o84 for a starter pulley. If you had a starter and small pulley and a bendix . I dont spell verry well. I cant get the spell check to work on this site.

    Steve,

I think I've got my starter figured out.

You haven't been around long enough to witness the "spirited" exchanges that Buster and I have have about starters.

Buster is using a Bendix style Subaru starter, with a home made flex plate and ring gear mounted to the OE alternator pulley. And it works very well for him.

You'll have to go WAY back in the posts to find that "discussion", but the bottom line is that whatever works out for you is GOOD, as long as it works and YOU are happy with it.

Maybe Buster will pipe in with a recent photo of his masterpiece of northern red-neck engineering. (I mean that in a nice way. He did good with his design.)

    So, how's your project going?

    n4wsp,

Since Duane insisted, I was going to put in some pictures of my starter project. However, I just realized that I don't know how to work that feature of the new forum.

    n4wsp,

I think your mom is lucky to have a son responsible enough to take care of her, and you deserve a lot of credit for it. Your boat will get in due time.

    n4wsp,

Kinda' like Buster said. Take care of the important stuff first.

You'll find time to play with the boat later. And if you don't, then it doesn't matter.
