Thread: Bending EMT

    Red face Bending EMT

I plan on using 1/2 emt for my new pancake style prop cage for the Fatcat. I'm just positive I saw some posts on the best way to do it here on the forum somewhere, but I'll be darned if I can find it. Can somebody point me there? Also was there something about filling the conduit with sand to keep it from kinking while bending it around a jig?

    thanks

    Hey Bruce,

I did that post about bending up a prop cage. That was right after Duane spent a good deal of time down on his knees on his driveway, doing it the hard way. You don't need to fill the EMT with sand, at least I didn't and it came out fine.

I'll see if I can locate it for you, or else I'll do it again. How soon are you going to start?

    Flathead,

Here's a link to what Buster was referring to.

Too bad you don't live close by. I have a set of "perfectly bent" 1/2" EMT hoops that Chuck did for me, before I decided to build the rigging from SS. I'd give 'em to 'ya.

I had practiced on a piece of 1/2" EMT before I tried the SS. It was fairly easy. Easy enough that I was convinced that the SS wouldn't be difficult at all. Boy was I wrong.

But EMT is not too bad to bend. Buster's method would be EASY.

SS would not be hard either, NOW. Since I now have the Buster method in my pocket.

    Flathead,

I looked around for the EMT bending post, but I had no luck either. I'll just do it again since I have some free time now. I better put it under "Rigging" so maybe it can found next time some needs it

    Buster,

I guess we were replying at about the same time. See above post.

    Duane,

Why do I bother to look anything up??? Hence forth anytime anyone needs to find anything, I'll just refer them to Duane. As I've said before, he has the "magic touch" when it comes to finding stuff

    Buster,

Magic touch ? Naw, I spend so much time trying to find what "I" have misplaced, that finding other folk's stuff is easy by comparison.

    Duane and Buster,

Once again you have come to my rescue! Thanks for putting me on the relavent posts. It's about 10:30pm and I just got off the river. We had a family catfishing night and we did great! Everyone caught fish I think we caught two that went 10lbs or so. 10 total in the boat, 15 on the hook....Woo Hoo!

I'll be starting my cage ASAP. Of course that may not be until October. I have one daughter going off the Bismarck, ND to college where she'll be playing on their Volleyball team and my other daughter plays on our High School team, so between the two, I'll be traveling most weekends for the next couple of months. However, I'm be chipping away at it. I cleaned the carbs from my rotax 582 today and I've spent a lot of time looking into a redrive for it. Not really having a lot of luck though. A 5 belt Magnum drive is about the only option I have right now. We will see what turns up though.....

    thanks again!

    Bruce
