    I need some help.

I went down to Chuck's and got my hull. 1380 mile's round trip. Sense Chuck has got all the money i had. I don't have enough to order a re drive from Arrow prop . The help that i need is the measurements for the engine mount footprint for a 084 with the re drive bolted to the motor. I need the measurement from the center of the crankshaft to the center of the of the top pulley on the re drive. Also is the front and rear Engine mounts at the same height.

    Thanks Steve

Hey Steve, the rear engine mounts should bolt to the bottom of the redrive after the drive is bolted to the engine. I would wait to build the engine stand untill you get the redrive.
    Thanks, Chuck

    n4wsp,

I totally respect Chuck's opinions, but I was in a similar place as you are now, about a year ago. I made a jig to build my engine stand, against Chuck's advice.

When it came time to bolt on the engine (with the Arrow Prop reduction drive) it fitted up just fine.

I think that I still have that jig, somewhere. But it was made from a shelf board, and it's been out in the weather. I don't know why I didn't throw it away. (actually, I may have) I don't know what condition it may be in though. I'll look for it, and let you know.

If nothing else, I can get some measurements for you Saturday.

    Hey Duane
Thanks Duane That would be grate. I think i can do it with template or jig. If it don't work out i can start over.
    Thanks again Steve

    n4wsp,

Here's a link to a discussion about that motor mount subject. It should answer all of those questions. If not, let us know.

I knew it was here somewhere, but had to find it.

    Hey Duane
    Thanks for the link.
I knew the link was there but i just could not find it. I will make a template like you did and give it a try.

    Thanks Steve

ps Are the top's of the motor mount cones front and rear at the same height. or level with each other
I got 3 cones from Chuck. The two that goes on the prop end are longer than the one that goes on the alternator end.

    n4wsp,

Yes the tops of the mounts should all be the same height. I have no idea why the cones Chuck sent you are different lengths. Mine are all the same, and seem to work just fine

    Hey Dave

Thanks. Just one more question. Are the holes in the redrive mount 10 in. apart Center to center ?

    Thanks Again Steve

    Re: I need some help.

    n4wsp,

The distance (center to center) between the holes on my Arrow Prop reduction is 10".

My cones are all the same length. The front one could stand to be shorter though. It only has 2 attachment points (as least the way I built mine), and the rear cones have several attachment points. I don't think that matters.

I built my stand with the top of the front cone 1/4" higher than the rear, like Chuck suggested.

The only thing I'd do different if I was starting over would be to make the stand a little taller. I was originally planning to use a 60" prop, but ended up with a 67" prop. That puts my prop tip about 3 1/2" below the top of the transom.

I don't think that's going to be a problem (at least that's what I've been told), but if I was doing it over, I'd make my engine stand taller. If you're going to use a 60" prop, those measurements are good.

Good luck, have fun, and keep us posted.

    Duane,

I don't remember Chuck saying anything about the front mount should be 1/4" higher that the rear. Could be my CRS, but I made mine all the same, and my prop came out at a perfect 90 degrees to the bottom of the hull.

Did you check yours out yet?

    Re: I need some help.

    Buster,

Yep, if you go back to that old post, that's what Chuck suggested. I didn't remember it either until I re-read it, (isn't CRS great?) but when I checked my notes, that's how I did it.

I didn't have the fancy digital level at time, but it seemed to work out really close, at least as good as I could read a spirit level.

Getting the angle "just right" is what fine tuning with shims (washers) is for.

    Re: I need some help.

Thanks for all the help. I am going to use the same Whirl Wind prop you are Duane and i will adjust for height. i will keep every one up to date on what i get done to the boat. Buy the way my hull is Gray&blue.

    Thanks Steve
Ps Duane I think the cv carb you have been talking about would be a good one for the 084. I have a 33mm flat slide Mikuni with a accelerator pump i am going to use on mine.

    Re: I need some help.

    n4wsp,

It's been a long time since I built my engine stand, and you know how my memory is...

So I did some double checking this morning. I did make my rear cones 36" above the floor, (measured from the floor, not the stringers) and the front cone 36 1/4" above the floor. And according to my new digital level I have the prop flange almost perfectly perpendicular to the bottom. It could stand to go up just a hair in the back.

BUT, I have 3/16" of shim under the rear motor mount. 1/4" would make it just right.

Your best bet would probably be to build it so that the top of the rear cones, and the front cone are the same height above the floor. (Like Buster said. )

As I have it, the center of the prop hub is exactly 30" above the top of the transom. If you're planning to use a 67" prop, you'd probably want to put the top of your cones at about 39 1/2" above the floor.
