    let it snow

Let it snow, let it snow. Between Saturday and today we've had almost 30" of snow. It's now about 11 am and should be stopping some time this evening around 7 PM.

    Papee,

Better you than me Let it snow in Pennsylvania

Glad you can enjoy it while you recuperate. Let wifey have a shot at the plowing, you shouldn't
    have all the fun.

You know how it is, you cheer them on all the while shaking your head as you lose part of the driveway. The son in law will have some time soon to get over here and fix it up.

    Brrr.....

I wonder how well a Mini Airboat would work as a snow blower?

    You enjoy it, O.K.?

    Re: let it snow

It would probably do real well if mounted backward on top of a 4x4 F150 Hey, I think we just invented a redneck snow blower (An RSB?)

I just heard some disturbing things as I walked by the TV. It looks like you east coast folks better get your SRD's tuned up. It seems like this kind of weather may get to be a worsening pattern over the years to come. Check it out If I'm lying, I'm dying

    Duane,

Got a question fer ya---GOT SNOW???

    Just wondering

If ya don't, you're about the only place in the country that don't. I just heard that it is snowing in Florida, and Dallas has over a foot

Every state has snow on the ground, except Hawaii

    Re: let it snow

    Dave,

No new snow here YET, but the forecast is for us to get 1 to 4 inches tonight.

We've still got a few piles (very few) of it from the last round though.... and thousands of potholes in the streets. I saw one still standing snow man yesterday, but he was looking pretty bad.

I really don't mind a "little" snow. But "any" snow drives Pam up the wall. I don't know why it bothers her so much...

That RSB idea might just work, IF mounted on a Chevy truck.

    Re: let it snow

    Dave,

As you often have been, you are correct again. A 4x4 F150 would be a much better platform to build a RSB on.

Any 4x4 Chevy truck would be a BAD choice. It'd just be added weight, and they don't need a RSB to get through the snow anyway.

You know that I'm just kidding, right?

I do wonder how much snow you could blow with an Airboat. I hope to never find out, but I do wonder...

Probably not enough to make it worthwhile...

Now, the snow jets that the railroads use would be the thing.

    Re: let it snow

    Duane,

Hey, those jets are neet. They must be a fairly recent thing. I worked for the RR twenty seven years previous to 1984, and I never heard of one. If they can't blow the stuff, they can melt it

Last thing I remember is snowblowers on locomotives. The engines don't need any help to get through the snowdrifts in the Dakotas and prairies out west. They run into trouble when the high snow builds up friction on the sides of all the cars, especially in the curves.

    Re: let it snow

    Dave,

I guess the snow jets are a fairly recent thing for the railroads. They don't use them on deep snow. I think that they are mostly used in Nawthern yards to clear the switches.

They'd be worthless in deep snow.

I saw one come through here, headed South, loaded on a flatcar last summer. I have no idea why it was way down here, in the summer. May have been headed to Jacksonville for repairs or something. I don't know.

    Re: let it snow

    Duane,

I guess you are right about them not being much good for the deep stuff. In the videos they didn't seem to have as much power as I would have expected.

Maybe an airboat, as least the prop and engine. would have done better. Probably a big block Chev, I mean Ford would be interesting to see.
