    red drive help?

Hi everyone, I'm new to the sport and I have some question that you might be able to help me with. I'm building a boat to test an engine that i want to use in an airplane, so why not have some fun while doing the r&d. I cant find for the life of me , a company that sells large cog gears. My engine is a Yamaha genesis 138 hp fuel injected 3 cylinder 4 stroke out of the Yamaha ntryo. I want the engine to turn 6000 rpm at cruise and 8200 at wot. I have my ratio calculated at 2.65:1. So where can i buy pulleys ? The gears should look something like the ones on the picture. Thanks[attachment=0:3o336xr2]yamaha2.jpg[/attachment:3o336xr2]

    Jesse,

That's a nice photo. Too bad that I can't see all of it. Papee, please fix that.

Steel pulleys are pretty easy to find. Light aluminum pulleys like that are going to be HARD to find. I suspect that they will have to be custom made by a machine shop.

Check with Chuck at Airboat Pros. He's had some custom pulleys made, but I don't know who did it for him.

Some of the Harley custom builders use them for primarys to the trans. Looks to be 3" belt.

Someone sent me this link a while back but I never had time to look around the site.

Sounds like a good project jesse,

Great idea on using the boat as a test platform...

Papee.... any chance there is a "drool" smilie you could add.

Here's what I have found in my searches. These are in no particular order. The problem I've found is cross referencing all the different manufacturers gear designs. I'm going with gates since they have free & good design software on their site. HTD gears you can find at mcmaster.com & grainger.com

    Cajun_Ag,

Those are some interesting links. Thanks!

I don't need them now, but have bookmarked them for future reference.

Wow! Thanks for all the help. looks like I'm gonna have to sell the farm to have a light weight aluminum one made.

    Jesse,

A 100 year mortgage on the farm may handle it.

See, you don't have to sell the farm after all.

Seriously, check in with Chuck at Airboat Pros. I know he's had someone make custom pulleys, and he still has the farm.

No, i don't still have the farm. Only one acre now. That's not much of a farm. .
Hey Jessie, whats wrong with getting a drive like the one in the picture that i can't see anymore. That one looked like the ones that Century Drives makes for the VW engines.
