Yea Papee, they are the most active members and they seem to be ready to help any member that needs help on a project or just needs a good .
Chuck
Chuck,
You are right about us being ready to help with stuff, and we do try, key word here is try. I'm not sure my help is always the best advise, since I tend to shoot from the hip.
Duane, on the other hand, takes the time to think stuff through and do some research. I'm sure that is a better approach, but it's never been my style. It's probably why I have to redo things quite often.
Anybody reading our advise would do well to keep that in mind.
As far as giving you a good , I tend to do that whenever possible. My wife might tell you that I'm a wannabe comedian, but I know I'm not very good at it. Please just cut me some slack, and I'll try to keep my mediocre humor to a minimum.

Duane,
Sounds that way. I sent a PM to Papee just to make sure. I guess he is giving us a wide berth, so if you got any way out stuff on your mind, maybe you can get by with it now

Dave,
Nah, for now, let's keep 'em guessing.
No need to give away all of the top secret stuff.
The paper mache' propeller IS top secret. Don't even mention it here, O.K.?

Dave,
I think the secret is out about the stealth paint. We have a security leak.

Hey Duane, here's something for you so you don't have to make airboat sounds any more.

Papee,
That was funny, but I'm still going to make the noises, just because I enjoy it.

Not that I want one of them, but I wonder how many of you remember the McCulloch 0-100-1 flat-four, 72hp, two-stroke engines used on the old Bensen gyrocopters?
I remember knowing someone who had one of the engines a few years back. (he only had the engine) If I remember right, the paperwork said it weighed about 85 lbs, and ran at 4000 RPM.
I'd think that'd make a mean little Mini-Airboat engine.

Duane,
Don't change the subject, just when I was gonna say something about airboat noises
If I remember right, when I got my boat-build started, you said something to the effect that you might make a video of you making airboat noises, because you are crazy enough!
I think that fact has been confirmed, so I think you owe us that video Especially in light of the fact that you twisted my arm into relating my sno-boat episode that I really wanted to forget
Does anyone else agree with me?
Ok now, about that McCulloch engine. I think it sounds like a no-brainer. With the right prop, maybe you could get by with Direct drive
Do you know where any are?
Dave

Hey Duane, Maybe buster can explain how to upload a video in case you forgot. Sure would like to see those airboat noises.
Chuck
I agree Buster, I remember his airboat noise post and was the reason for me posting that clip.

Thanks for the support guys
The only thing is, Duane is a lot better than I am at most anything to do with pictures, computer stuff, and most likely video. Therefore, I for one, don't think he has any excuse
C'mon. Duane, front and center
Dave

All he has to do is get the video made and we'll get it up on the internet. And that's a promise.

Well, since there seems to be such a demand for it, I guess I'll HAVE to do it.
Problem is, my camera has a video mode, but no sound. It wouldn't be the same without sound.
I'll try to find a real video camera to borrow, and get it done this coming weekend. I promise.

It turns out that they were originally intended to power target drones. I suppose most of them were shot down. The best I've been able to figure, the ones used in the Benson's were government surplus, and that source dried up a long time ago.
The gyrocopter guys have moved on to other engines, like Rotax, A-65's, etc.
I did manage to find a couple of photos though.
Duane
Edit:
I also found this run down of the various McCulloch engines. I didn't know there were so many different ones.

Duane,
After you mentioned the McCulloch 1-100-1 engine, I googled it, and I actually found a couple for sale on craigslist, by private parties.
One was only $650.00, the other quite a bit more. I couldn't locate either one again though.
I think that parts locating would be a problem for an engine that was only expected to make one, one-way trip.
I found where the main bearings were only short lived, but when installed in a gyrocopter, they fitted them up with a long life version. This turned it into a good reliable engine.

I looked at those things a couple of times and you do find them for sale fairly cheap every now and then.
If I remember right I crossed them off the list because of fuel consumption and sound generation. But sometimes I remember left.
