    Crank Breather - What this?

This unit was on the VW that was on the NC. (nut case)

The front line came out the top of the oil fill cap and the return line (side) went back into the top of the crank case.

I am assuming it is a crank breather. Question(s): Is there any benefit to using this over just a straight puke tube and would it work on the O84? Does it have to be mounted way above the motor or is just a little elevation above the block enough?

Not even sure what it is. Don't let the tarnish fool you I rubbed it with the glove and it's polished or chrome.

Chuck mentioned something about moving the breather hose higher in the cage on the 084. The Slow moving vehicle sign made me chuckle.

That looks like a homemade crankcase vent. The tube that goes back to the crankcase should come out of the bottom of the cannister to collect oil and drain it back to the crankcase. The vent tube to open air should come out near the top of the cannister. I would make the pressure hose about 1/2 inch hose so it would vent good.
