    Whirl Wind Mini-Props

Does anyone have any experience with Whirl-Wind's Mini-Props?

I'm just asking for information purposes now. Thier advertising sounds good, but I've not heard anyone here mention them.

    So, has anyone tried one?

    Duane,

I checked out the WW Mini prop too. I remember that they were two blade, and quite a bit more money than the three blade IVO I did get. They were designed for up to a 45 HP engine, and up to 67" long. I figured the 60" IVO was probably quieter, cheaper, and probably about equal otherwise.

Don't get me wrong, I had WW props on my big boat and I was very happy with them.

    Buster,

I'm leaning towards going with an IVO prop eventually, for the reasons you said. For now I'm just gathering information.

Who knows, I may be satisfied with the GSC that I've got, and have not tried yet.

    Thanks,

I am going with a WW mini prop on my new Mini AirRanger. I have heard good reports and I have talked to Patti at WW and got the ok to use the 67" on a 70hp modified engine. The WW has much wider blades that the IVO and WD so you get more low end push. Talk to cntry on Southern Airboat he has a lot of experience with them.

It will be interesting to see if that will be enough prop for 70 hp. What do you expect to have for a max rpm, and is that with or without a re-drive?

    brlcla,

The "wider blades" and "low end push" is the kind of info I was hoping to hear about.

I've emailed back and forth with Patti a couple of times, asking about a 3 blade Whirl Wind Mini Prop. She said it was not in the plans for now.

Please keep us informed on how it works out for you. I've got a starter prop, so I'm not in a big hurry.

    Thanks,

Didn't catch this question till now....

My set up with be a 35 Briggs modded to 70HP at 5000 rpm with the 2:1 Century Drive. I am using the 67" Whirl Wind Mini Prop on a 12x7 boat with 18" rake. Right now we estimate the hull is about 200# (.90 sides with .100 bottom), Stainless cage is about 30# and Stainless rigging is about 40#... I hope to try to keep the boat under the 500# mark when it is complete... it is going to be close.

After we get everything set up right may not get all 5000 rpm so may end up using only 60-65 hp in the 4000-4500 rpm range, but only testing will tell. Hope to roll out of American Airboats with it in about 2-3 weeks.
