Looks like I found an 084 close by with low hours on it.
so at least I'll be playing with toys that you peeps are familiar with... so then advice would be very much so available in the forums!! Rather than my freak show unknown, untested ideas.

Finally paid for the motor!
Dusty has been very good to me.
I hope to go pick it up next weekend!! yay me!
Now if work hours pick up and the money improves enough... I'll need to find my way to Florida to see Chuck next spring... or maybe I'll do the lake buggy idea... who knows?
I like the idea of going to Florida and buying one of chucks hulls best!!

I'm glad you've got the 4A084 paid for and ready to be picked up. So like Papee said, welcome to the club. We need pictures.

And, I hope that your work picks up soon so that you can get one of Chuck's hulls before long.

I did not have Chuck do the Frogspit on my hull. Instead, I applied it myself with rollers. I think it came out "O.K.", but it sure would have came out much better if it'd been sprayed on. So, I highly recommend that you have him do that for you.

it must take allot of frogs to get enough of that stuff to cover the hull!

Whats the purpose of the spit?
I will be using the boat in the marshes and the mud flats... possibly salt water marshes as well... muscle beds are sharp.. probably allot like oyster flats down south.. does the spit add strength? or is it something like a Teflon coat?
I like the idea of buying one of chucks hulls and I hope he chimes on recommendations.. also you guys use a redrive on your 084 or do you run direct. I know you've all mentioned it a million times but my head is spinning with ideas!

I have determined,after much research, that the sole purpose of Frog Spit is to keep the Frogs employed. There's not much worst than to be panhandled by hungry Frogs.

Nah, Frog Spit is just a coating to make the hull slicker.

Some are using re-drives, and some are doing direct drives. I guess that the jury is still out on that....

Well.. ok I got my motor today!! finnaly!! whoohooo!

I haven't had a chance to play with it yet but I did go out tonight to turn the fly wheel by hand and I noticed something that has me a bit nervous... well allot NERVOUS...
When I turn the motor by hand it makes a clink noise that sounds like something inside is broken what could it be?? OMG!! nooooooo.
I'm hoping that some of you may have some insight on the whats and hows of the motor that could make such a noise geeze.. I'm stunned.

Yay ! I'm glad you finally got it.

Calm down, O.K. ? The magneto will make a LOUD snap as you turn the crank over through top dead center.

The 4A084 has an impulse magneto, that preloads a spring which releases right before TDC to provide an advanced spark. Once the engine is running, you won't hear that.

Yeah the noise is right up near the mag so I figured it might be the governor or something.
