Thread: ANOTHER STRAY CAT

    Re: ANOTHER STRAY CAT

Looks great Buster. It will be fun to watch the progress of this project compared to the FATCAT. Whereas the FATCAT will use as much as the original equipment as possible, it appears you'll be building a lot from scratch. Keep those pics coming.....

Yea, It's mostly laying glass matte, and messing around with
that miserable, sticky resin. Oh ya, a whole lot of grinding and sanding too
    Edit: Oh, and I forgot - - - SMELLY

Makes one almost look forward to the painting

    It must be Miller time

    Re: ANOTHER STRAY CAT

I spent a few more hours on the Tomcat today, until I ran out of materials. I can't believe our estimate could have been so wrong.

I finished repairing the damage to the nose, that is, all except the grinding and finishing work.

Also, put two layers of glass matte on the rear half of the port side. I finished the starboard side a couple days ago.

Tomorrow I plan to go get enough stuff to finish the inside, and then we will turn it over, and begin the underside. Hopefully, we won't find too many surprises under there.

    Dave,

    It's looking nice.

Hopefully, when you turn this cat over, it's bottom will look better than the last one.

If not, I know that you can fix it.

    Duane,

I don't think my bad shoulders would stand fixing another one as bad as the last one.

We will find out in a day or two

    Thanks,Dave

Ah the smell of fiberglass resin and the dust that comes with it. I hate it myself, beter you than me. I've been there and done that and know it is a lot of work with the stickys and the sanding. Your work looks like its comming along great, neat looking hull.
I bet you will be happy when the glass work is dunn and you get to more of the fun fabricating. Have you desided on a color yet?

    Bogger2,

This is just a wild guess on the finished color of the stray cat.

Seems like many so many stray cats are yellow (orange) and black, so I'm going to guess that.

My next guess would be blue and white.

    Or maybe white and blue.

Nah, I'm going to bet on Garfield's colors.

    Re: ANOTHER STRAY CAT

Since it's gonna be Ron's Boat, and he doesn't have internet access, maybe you guys want to hold a pot on Ron's color choice. He hasn't told me yet.

For all I care, we can leave it fiberglass color,.... or maybe not

    Stray Cat update

I thought I would just remind all of you what the "Stray Cat" started out as, and announce that some progress is being made. Hope to have the official unveiling in the not too distant future.

    Flathead,

I think Buster was probably a very successful used car salesman.

    Buster,

O.K., It's about time to let the "Cat" out of the bag.

    ( I make myself laugh sometimes )

I don't know if I would say it's "fantastic", but It definitely is different.

Just keep your shirts on, It shouldn't be too much longer until I let the "Cat" outa the bag

Now that I think about it Duane, weren't you building a boat or something a long time ago, or did you decide to give up that project? I can't remember seeing any pic's of that one in the water, or did that happen the day I called in sick ?????

BTW, If I do say so myself, I was a pertty fair salesman if you think about it. I supported us for about twenty years, buying wrecked, salvage titled cars, rebuilt them and talked people I never met before into paying hard earned money for them. Not an easy sale to make!

Well here are those long awaited pictures of the "new and improved" Stray cat. (In the correct thread this time)

There are a number of things left to hook up, etc, including the rudders.

    Buster,

Very clean looking setup! I like what you did with your exhaust. I bet it will scoot along real good. C'mon spring!

Where did you find the rub rail? I need some for the fatcat......

    Bruce,

That rub rail is what I had leftover from my Aircat 084 build. Cost new for fifty ft. was about $240. I think. Since I had about half of it left, I lucked out for this one. I looked for a deal on ebay, but no luck, so I had to go to a marine dealer.

That exhaust is called a teepee style, and it is tuned. I got it from J C Whitney. Problem is is had to mount it backwards to clear the cage, and a few other mods. Also, I don't think that little muffler is gonna cut it, but we will see.
