Thread: Boggers rotax rig

  1. #141
    Hey Bogger,

Got that new rotax hooked up yet? I'm looking forward to hearing how it works out for you compared to the 503. I've also decided to put a rotax 582 in the Fatcat during my re-build. I know you use a gearbox reduction, (by the way what ratio are you using?) but did you every run across anyone building a belted redrive for them? I have a non provisional motor and I'm looking for a system that will work with that...

Hey Flathead, My new Rotax motor is 532 which is the for runner to the 582. From what I here is that the 582 has a wider power ban.
I am quite happy with it. but it took alittle time designing the pumbing. I havent clocked it yet But it goes quite a bit faster. I still have to pitch the prop corectly.
I have it way over pitched right now because I am waiting for a new Tach and I didn't want to smoke the motor.

Chuck might have a recomendation for a redrive for it. I have 2.58 to 1 reduction. It Works well with this motor.

Here are a couple of links On the test ride.

Hey Flathead, i don't have any recomendations foe the reductions. The only Rotax we used was the 618 and it came with the 2.58 gear already mounted. I haven't had time to do a search for them.
    Thanks, Chuck

Man booger, looks like you got it going on bud! I'm ready to see that thing up and running, I'm sure you are. Good job man

I'm just curious, been meaning to ask this question. What is the weight of those little fiberglass hulls. Wasn't sure where to post this, figured you might know since you had one.

    Hey Bill,
I beleave Chuck said they were about 225 lb's + or -. Mines is the 116 model which is 11Ft. long 6 ft. wide.
It performs very well with my 65 HP Rotax motor. I haven't tested the top speed yet with this new motor but I bet it is well over 35 miles an hour.
I'll post the speed when I get out with my GPS.
I have more weight values for the boat writen down some where for all the rigging and accessories. I will see if I can find it.
    Thanks

Yeah, chuck gave me the specs not to long ago. But THX anyhow.

My boat ran out at 37 mph in deep water with the stock pipe on the GPS. I prob picked up 5-7 mph with the performance pipe. Your little boat runs out nice. I like these little rotax engines they really perform great for their size.

I'm just begining another project with a 50 hp kawasaki ultralite engine. It prob wont run out as good as mine or yours but well see what happens , THX Bogger

    Hey Bill
Is that Kawaskai air or whater cooled?
A light weight 50HP is plenty good to make it go.
    Thanks bogger

Its an air cooled engine. I'm about done with it, I'll try to post some pics soon. I didn't order a starter for it, thought I would just pull start it....PUFFFFF! That sucker has too much compression.
I can pull start my 582 with ease, but this new 50hp Kawasaki I can get about 2 puffs but thats it. Anyone know why that is..I dont think the 582 has an assist pull start mechanism or anything. I dont think its wore out or anything, any susgestions?

    Hey Bil,
You might want to check the compresion on the Kaw. I dont rember the compresion on my rotax, but it pulls resonably easy.We were out yesterday for a test run and my brother was curious how hard it was to pull, so I said go for it. He could pull it easy enough but it is a cold harted engine. He desided to let me fire it up with the electric sart. I found this was a quite valuable adition to my motor. 500 bucks hurt but not as much as my sholders when trying to yank the pull rope.
    Good luck
