    Re: Boggers rotax rig

Here's a couple more shots of the motor stand spacer's for mock up. I plan on using the original motor stand for now but will probably make a new seating frame work to accommodate two seats instead of the single setup it is now.
Chuck had a good idea to use brass bushings for the rudder. So I ground down some brass pluming connectors to use as bushings for my rudder's. I drilled them out to 3/8 and filed down the threads so they would fit in the rudder's with out having to drill the aluminum in the rudder. We will see if they will hold up better than the plastic bushings. I am not sure which bushing I will use yet. If any one wants the part number from Home depot for the two different bushings in the picture I will post it. Note what will happen if your prop is to long or not properly positioned. This is the original prop from the weed hopper ultralight air craft, from which I got the motor. I could use parts of it for a tooth pic.
    Kind of looks like Pappees.

    Re: Boggers rotax rig

    Hey Chuck,
    1. How far off center up or down can the rudders be?
I have to space mine to fit where the previous guy had larger rudders. I would like to space them down from center if possible to fit my stick stearing assembly.
    2. My rudder placement distance side to side between rudders is 24 inchs is that ok for a 60 inch 3 blade prop setup?
    3. Also can you get the cost for an IVO electric veriable pitch 3 blade 60 inch prop to run my 45 to 50 HP. Rotax motor. I figure you pobably would know the ball park range of the pitch. If I can swing it, it would be nice to have the prop adjustable for different situations I will call you later in the week for cost and to arange payment for the rudders.
    Thanks as always,

    Bogger,

That's looking pretty nice, except for the prop. I sure hope the reduction drive survived that ground strike without damage. Have you tried running the engine yet?

    Re: Boggers rotax rig

    Bogger,

I didn't know that IVO made an electric variable pitch prop, so I just visited thier web site, and yes, they do. That would be a nice thing to have, I guess, but they are certainly not cheap. They cost about as much as you paid for your boat.

I'll probably go with some kind of ground adjustable prop when my checking account has finished catching up with my airboat project.

Somebody needs to try one though. I vote for YOU.

    Thanks,

    Duane

Hey Bogger, We put at least 65% of the rudder surface area below the center of the prop. A little more want hurt. 24 inches center to center of rudder pivots is OK. I will try to get the cost of the electric pitch ajust tomorrow.
    Thanks, Chuck

Thanks Duane, We will see what happens after I get over the sticker price shock, whether or not I will go that route. The engine was rebuilt from the crank up. It's good to go.
From what I understand It's like having a transmition. you can change the pitch on the move according to conditions.

    Re: Boggers rotax rig

You might not be able to tell but look at the end of the steering rod. I welded a peace of motorcycle handle bar on to it for a motor cycle quarter turn twist throtal.
Notice the swivel seat arrangement. They both work very well. Maybe not that safe. But you have to go out some how.

    Re: Boggers rotax rig

Working on the motor stand with some of Chucks motor mounts. I was going to go with an electrically variable pitch prop for 1200$ but decided to go with the manual pitch for half that, and bought an electric starter for 600$ so I figure I got two parts for the price of one expensive one. My shoulders are to bad for pull starting this beast any ways.

    That looks great Bogger.
The rotax 503 motor with the 4 stud config is very popular with ultralight pilots. the reduction your using is mint!
I like the way this motor looks on your rig... nice clean lines and very compact.
I'm sure the rotax has many more options than my suzuki motor has simply because of the popularity of that motor.
    Looks like a great ride!

    Hey Bogger,

Looking good. It appears you and i have some same ideas, i.e. the cage design, the throttle, the swivel seat and more
I'm still debating the throttle but the swivel seat is pretty much a must for fishing. The question i have for you is; how do you plan to mount the panel so you can turn tle seat ? I have an idea but i'm not sure about it. Also where did you find the rod ends ? Keep on trucking

    Re: Boggers rotax rig

Nice work! I had a hand throttle on mine but I changed it to a foot throttle because of the constant changing in speed. That and if you get a hook or lure stuck it's much easier with the pedal.

I like your steering setup Bogger. I would never have come up with something so simple, yet functional....The L shaped bracket to switch forward and back movement to side to side is sweet!
