    Old guy, but new here

    Hi all,

I've been interested in building a low budget airboat since I was a teenager, (a VERY long time ago) but never got around to it. Several times over the years I've considered putting a VW engine on a Jon boat, but never did.

Recently, an ad on Craigslist re-sparked my interest.

When I started looking, I discovered this forum.

I think that what I want to try is a Mini-Airboat, with maybe a 35HP Briggs and a reduction drive. I'd like it to be mostly a build it myself project. (I've kind of decided that a Jon boat is not the way to go.)

Anyway, I'm going to be lurking around here, listening to you experienced guys for ideas.

I'm bound to ask some dumb questions, but please bear with me.

    Thanks,

    Duane Scarborough

Re: Old guy, but new here

Thank you for the welcome John.

I grew up in and spent most of my life in Southwest Georgia. During my younger years, the panhandle of Florida was my play ground.

I moved to eastern North Carolina in 1996.

BTW, after reading some of the threads here, I guess I'm not THAT old. I'm 54. Some non-airboat related forums that I visit are mostly 20-30 olds, which makes me FEEL very old. For example, I actually understand why we have speed limits. Try explaining that to a 25 year old lead foot. And I at least TRY to use proper grammar and spelling.

    O.K., I drifted there didn't I? I was having a senior moment....
