    084 Starter Generator Kit

We are developing a starter generator kit for the 084 engine. This kit will
contain the starter/generator, voltage regulator, solenoid, brackets, belt, hardware, wiring, and connection diagram. This kit should become available
in one to two weeks. We hope to start the prototype tomorrow.

    Thanks, Chuck

    Chuck,

The pictures don't show up. Just the red X.

Hmmm... I may need one of these too. Once you remove all of the un-needed hardware from a 4A084, there's no flywheel, ring gear and starter.

    I didn't think about THAT.

So how's your starter/generator kit going?

Chuck, your timing is great. I just picked up a starter-gen, that came off a golf cart. Will all the other parts be available as a kit?

    Re: 084 Starter Generator Kit

I know the pictures don't come up Duane. I have had trouble trying to upload for the past few months. The first starters we used were 2 pole and would barely turn the motor over. Bill used a 4 pole from the golf cart and it spins the motor good. The bracket kit we were making needs to be changed to fit the new starter and we hope to have a kit made soon. I hope all the golf cart starters are the same length so the kit we are making will fit.
    Thanks, Chuck

    Buster / Dave,

I've came to the party late. What kind of golf cart starter-gen do I need to be keeping an eye out for?

    Re: 084 Starter Generator Kit

    Chuck,

I'm good at dumb questions, so here goes:

Since a stock 4A084 has a 24 volt starter, alternator, flywheel, and etc., what would be the problem with stripping all of the other crap, (the sheet metal shroud, etc.) but keeping the original flywheel, ringear / fan, starter, alternator, etc. and changing the way we mount the prop or reduction drive?

If we keep the original flywheel and FAN, would that not help with cooling at low / idle speed? And let us keep the original starting / charging system?

Fresh out of the crate, it has a starting and charging system, and a fan. It worked for the military, so why do we want to change it?

That'd mean you'd have to use 2 12 V batteries. What's wrong with that? You might want to have a 24 V trolling motor.

    Asked respectfully,

I'm just asking.... I am here to learn.

    Re: 084 Starter Generator Kit

First you would have to get someone to design a drive unit and work out those problems. The heavy flywheel takes energy to turn it up. To use the stock starter, you have to leave the heavy flywheel housing on. Everything we remove is to make the engine more effiencent for the airboat. We will turn these engines 3600 RPM's. As a generator, they only turned 1800 RPM's. To make the airboat perform, we need a snappy motor. We also remove the 24 volt alternator stator from the front of the motor. That's why we use a starter/generator. The complete set-up will cost about $ 400.00 but is well worth it.
    Thanks, Chuck

    Re: 084 Starter Generator Kit

    Duane,
I think Chuck just gave you the answer you need, However, I got my start-gen off of an "EasyGo" golf cart, and I think the "Club-Car" unit will also work. If I had not already bought one though, I would go with the complete package from Chuck! It would be a lot less messing around, and chaseing after parts. Probably wouldn't save much in the long run anyway.

    Re: 084 Starter Generator Kit

I asked honest, but dumb questions, and got good answers. Thanks to both of you.

I learned this afternoon that I have purchased the 4A084 that I bid on. It's supposed to be new in the crate. Before stripping it down, I "plan" to get it running, and give it a few hours of run-in time, using the OE starter.

After that, the real fun begins.

Chuck, please send me, or direct me to more info on your starter/generator kit.

    Re: 084 Starter Generator Kit

OK, The club car starter generator part # is CP1018337-01. It is clockwise rotation. I seen it work good on Billsmini that Henry bought. He used his wife's money to buy it and said they would resale it for a profit but when Dee seen it, she wants to keep it for herself.
Now let's see who can locate it at the best price.
    Thanks, Chuck

There is plenty of Golf Cart dealers here in Florida but the mark-up is too much. I will be looking for a wholesale supply to get an acct with. I need to be able to sell them a little less than the retail dealers do. If you find one, let me know. Thanks, Chuck

No, Ron's is a 2 pole and Henry's is a 4 pole. The 2 pole is working on Ron's but it is slow to start with and then spins it over good. His motor cranks good. The 2 pole fits a International Harvester. Ron is also using a 1000 amp battery. Thanks, Chuck

    Hi all,

My first lead didn't seem to work out, because they won't respond to email.

I've just tracked down another lead, and sent them an email with specific questions. They're also $30.00 cheaper than the first lead.

I'll let you know what I find out.

    Re: 084 Starter Generator Kit

    Hi all,

I got a reply from mfgsupply. They have no experience in our application, but did confirm that it is a 4 pole starter.

When I posted last night, I forgot to mention the model number. They list it as a "GDR0002 - Cub Cadet Starter Generator. Replaces Delco. 15 AMP, CW Rotation".

Thier price is $99.99 They also say:

"Actual shipping charges apply for this item. Your receipt will not show a shipping cost - it will be calculated when we ship the item and you will be charged accordingly." and,

"Most orders are shipped within 24-48 hours. Most of our merchandise is shipped via UPS or FedEx, and some is shipped via USPS Priority Mail or SPEE-DEE. Shipping cost to any location in the lower 48 US states is only $6.99 regardless of amount of order via a carrier of our choice (Except for items marked otherwise such as oil, frames, and those items that must be shipped via freight carriers or special order items). Actual shipping and handling will be charged on all orders to anywhere outside of the lower 48 US states (minimum of $6.99)."

I may order one from this guy eventually. I'm not at the point yet where I actually NEED a starter/generator. (Plus my budget is getting VERY tight right now since last weekend's trip - with Chuck's help ).

But I thought I'd share what I learned with you guys now.

If you order from this guy, please tell him that I sent you there, so he doesn't think that my questions were a waste of his time.

    Duane

    P.S. Chuck, did I win a prize?
