38 mph! I would be very satisfied with that. Good deal. Do you know about how much your boat weighs? I'm curious about what a good weight for a boat your size would be.

I measure my speed with a gps and a speedometer app on my iphone. I've checked them both in a few vehicles to make sure they are right.
I wanted to take a photo of each rpm and speed but I couldn't figure out how to steer, hold the iPhone next to the tach, plus take a photo. Now that I have the fancy dash on I can lay my phone next to the Tach.
The metering rod deal was just a whim I had and since I had a spare carb I thought I would try it. Next time I go out I'm going to put the stock metering rod in and check the difference. The biggest thing I noticed is the flat spot after the idle is not near as bad. I'll report back later on the comparison.
I was actually surprised on the results also, i had to recheck and make sure I was not on the knots setting. The prop is holding the rpms down to 3200, I will be putting my 3 blade carbon fiber back on at 52" and an 18 degree pitch then see which is better. I'd like to have a little less speed and faster plane results. When I had the 3 blade on before I had the blades cut to 48" and a 18* pitch. The boat came out of the water fast but only had a top speed of 21mph no matter if I had one person or two.
Edit: I've never weighed my hull but if I had to guess, I'd say around 500#, it has a 16x5 bottom @ 1/8 thick and the sides are 18" and just a bit thinner, it also has a 3 ft deck on @ 1/8" and three stringers made from C channel. Then the angle at the top all around. I know there is a way to figure the weight using the materials.

Hey, Papee. Is that cut down 48" set of blades the "Ultra Prop" ("Competition Aircraft") that you ran at one time?
I know you've always called that boat a tank or a barge, but that is a heavy boat. You think your sides are .100 or .090 thick?

Yes, the prop is a Competition Aircraft Ultra Prop. The sides are just shy of 1/8 and the bottom is a full 1/8.

Well, round 237 of rebuilds. I'm taking the boat down to the local shop for a nip and tuck.
Since I'm leaving soon for a trip south I decided to take the opportunity to take the tank in for some cosmetic surgery. I'll be having almost three feet taken off the length and making the front the same width as the rest of the bottom then adding a deck to make more room on the front. Not sure when we're coming yet Chuck but it will be this month. I guess I'll know when she tells me to start packing LOL

It will be good to see you Papee, we will here.
Chuck
Ok, I'm planning to chop my hull and wanted to get measurements up for the guy that is going to do the work for me. It's just not worth it to me to go buy the machine I need to do the job. ( the wife won't allow it LOL) I took some pics and took some measurements. I knew my rake was long but it's 6'8"
I'll be cutting 30 inches off the length ending up with a 13'4" hull.
the bow will go from 40 inches to 51 1/2" and I'll be adding a 40" long deck giving me room for the fishing seat and trolling motor. This will still allow for some leg room for the front passenger. The front seat will be put on a removable swivel so it can be moved to the bow to separate 2 people when fishing.
I'll be adding more photos and measurements as needed. This does not mean I'm not getting the new hull from Chuck, this will be my second boat for my fishing guide service here on the river. The one Chuck is building will be about the same setup but will be a front steer.

hack here and add 40" deck keeping in mind when bracing the deck there will be a hole cut for the front pedestal mount.

A better pic of the rake, as you can see her it starts at the front edge of the front seat.

Papee,
That's a pretty ambitious modification. I'd probably pay someone to do that for me.
The photo-shop chop job post looked pretty good.
Good luck with it !
Thanks,
Duane

Yes Duane with my knees I just can't get around well enough to take a project like that on so I dropped it off at a shop this morning to have the work done.

Very nice graphics Papee.

So I take my boat up to get this work done and now we have three straight days in the 70's. The day I get it back it will most likely snow.

Well, I just got the call that my boat is done. I'll be picking it up tomorrow morning and I hit it on the money, rain and 58 degrees tomorrow thunder and 65 Sat and no rain on Sun but only getting up to 58. At least I can pull the front of the boat in the garage with my ABRD and get the registration numbers back on in the mean time.

I went up today and picked the boat up. I came home and put enough stuff back on it to take it out for a test. It was VERY windy out and a rough ride. I got about 5 mins in and it started to rain so I headed back for shore. I didn't really have time to see how much it changed things but it sure was different! It seemed very light in the water. I am very happy with the results and hope to get some good weather soon to see if it still catches fish. I took a video while I was out and it's uploading right now. I'll post it when it is done.
If you watch the video I slowed down to see how slow I could run and stay on plane. I was way down there but didn't have the battery in to run the tach.
Finished length is 13'4"
