I've looked at at the Lake Buggy airboatfun website, and it had some useful info. I don't know if I'll go that route, but may order the 2 seater plans, if nothing else for more information.
I'm just thinking out loud here, but I "think" that if I was to go this way I'd build it wider (maybe 6') with 4 full stringers and a full deckover.
Do you have any info from someone who's actually built a hull from these plans?
Of course I'm thinking about using my newly aquired 4A084. Would that be too much engine for this hull?
Another option that looks good to me is one of Chuck's hulls.
Reduction drive or direct drive is still a big question in my mind. I've pretty much decided that I should spend the extra $ for an adjustable pitch prop, but undecided about a smaller direct drive prop, or a larger prop with a reduction drive.
I'll still on a steep learning curve here.
Any advice is welcomed.

If it was me I would go ahead and do the beltdrive because if you wanted to do it later on you would have to change your rigging and prop JMO
Be kind to your new motor...belt drive. imho
You will also appreciate the added performance.

David and Wildfowl,
Thanks for your replies. I'm sure that what both of you have said is true, and will probably go with a belt reduction drive. Now I have to choose one.
But, in the back of my mind I know that some folks still swear by direct drive, and I wonder why.
Thanks,
Duane

use the belt drive its a torque multiplier the key is getting the combination right with how everything is going to be setup how much weight are you going to have in it what do you want to do how fast do you want to go etc you get a good hull and set it up right you will be happy with it
I didn't get a response from Papee or anyone else concerning who'd actually built one of these Lake Buggy boats, so I've ordered the plans just to see what they look like. At the price, ($14.95) it's not a big loss, either way. I'll be back.

O.K.,
I ordered and downloaded the Lake Buggy 2 seater plans. There's "some" good info there for a novice like myself, but an experienced airboater would probably think that it's a waste of money.
Was it a waste of money to me? I don't know yet. If I decide to use the plans, or a variation of them, no. Otherwise, yeah, it really was.

I think there was a member on here named Randy that had one
Update:
I'm NOT going to build a Lake Buggy. If nothing else, this helped me make up my mind to do it right. So, I guess the $14.95 was spent well.
I've decided to order one of Chuck's MiniPro 116 hulls, and a Magic Tilt trailer.
I've dreamed about building an airboat for 38 years. Now that I'm getting around to actually doing it, and even though I am on a tight budget, I want it to look and perform nice. What good is a finally fulfilled teenage dream if you can't be proud of the result?
I want to build the rigging, and build up the engine myself. That way I can say that I built it (at least some of it) myself.
My 4A084 is on it's way, (been sitting in the UPS frieght terminal in Raleigh since Saturday) I need to check on it again tomorrow.

Way to go Duane, you'll be happy with your choice.

Papee,
I'm betting that you're right.
BTW, my 4A084 arrived today. It apppears to be exactly as the seller said. New, in the crate, with the original paperwork, etc. Build date 7/90. I turned it over by hand, and it seems fine.
I was wondering if I'd be disappointed because I got it so cheap. But I'm happy.

Awsome! I'm building a lake buggy now as we speak. What hp engine are you running? How do you like it?
