    Bass fishing rig

I have my mini set up for bass fishing. In my area we run on the Susquehanna River which is low water and a lot of rocks. Because of the rocks we use thicker aluminum hulls. I first put mine together just to be able to get around in these low water conditions, sometimes only a few inches. I probably spend the better part of the time at low speeds or idling from one fishing spot to another. When I first put it together, it planed out well but as I added more seating, trolling motor, live well, and extra batteries, it was too much weight to plane. At that point I tore the 18 hp Briggs down and did a few mods to it bring up the horse power. I also experimented with different props until I found the one I use now, a 2 blade carbon fiber model. Right now I have minimum pitch on it and it works well but plan on installing a reduction drive in the near future so I can put more pitch in the prop.

I assure you that no plants were harmed in taking the photos. I'm the chief yard boy so it would be myself that I had to deal with.

It looks coldddddddddd up there. What kind of hull was that before you customized it? It wasn't a standard jon boat hull was it? It must be a built hull that you or someone else did. Later, Cajun

The hull is pretty old, I'll have to ask him next time . The hull was built as an airboat hull. In it's original configuration, it had an old Hercules engine on.

    Re: Bass fishing rig

    Dave,

Thanks for inviting me on over! Now this is EXACTILLY what I'm talking about! Where would I get plans for such an animal? While I'd love to have an aluminium hull. I just can't afford to upgrade my welder right now. So a wooden design would be okay for now. I'd like to have some more lockable storage, wouldn't want a tackle box or an expensive rod/reel disappear while I ran in the store for worms.

Like I've asked elsewhere, is there any place on the net where I can order plans for such a boat? I see one place that I've already found is one of this boards sponcers. Nothing against them, I just like to compare notes and examples is all.

    Thanks

    Jax

    Re: Bass fishing rig

The boat that I purchased for parts, the engine, prop, cage was around 15 ft. Wooden boats were use a lot here in the earlier years. I'll do some checking around and see if anyone has a set of the old plans laying around. The only problem with a wooden hull that size would ne the weight. It would take a hefty motor to get it on plane.

I'd look around, With the price of wood nodays you may be able to find a aluminum hull. I paid $500 for this one.
