Belt reduction or gearbox?
Started with a cog belt reduction. I switched to a 4-v belt. I know a bunch of the mudmotor guys trick out their Briggs motors, but it will shorten their life span. Where are you located and where...
Might contact Chuck at Airboat Pro for a reduction. He can save you $$$ if he has one of his in stock.
Check the shaft diameter on the Briggs. They made two, 1 1/8" & 1 7/16". I twisted the smaller diameter crank off with a similar setup to your build. Had to have crank replaced and prop repaired....
You might want to look for a c box with 2.6 to 1 gears. Power band on 582 (583) is 6-6.5k rpm. You need prop speed up around 2.5 k to get to most out of whirlwind razors. I ditched my warp drives...
My 583 with the same gear ratio turns a 2 blade 70" Whirlwind Razor X-Core. Rotax Rick also went through mine. Pitch is now set to hold WOT on trailer just below 8k rpm. Had Rick put a clutch in my C...
just a suggestion, put some wire mesh around your prop cage asap. better to never need it than need it and not have it. remember, in a contest, the prop always wins.
pictures on airboatsunlimited website. dixon twister 14' with two low seats, 35 briggs 60" sensenitch prop...
new boat was $14,500, now valued at $9,500 - 10,000 w/ two year old trailer and sixty...
just kicking around an idea about trading off one of my miniairboats... would trade my 14' Dixon Twister for a mud motor boat but dont know a lot about them... anyone know a source for info on them...
Inspecting b box after failure, found straight cut prop gear missing 6 of the 57 teeth. All 19 crank gear teeth looked chewed on and spit out. The new c box has helical cut gears much heavier than...
Well, I learned that a b box 3:1 will not stay together on a 583 swinging a 70" whirlwind prop. Had to go with a c box 2.62:1 and adding a clutch this month. We will see how this holds up...
might contact chuck at airboat pros in florida.
Finally got this swap complete. Ended up having Rotax Rick in Naples do the final stuff to bring this motor to life. Ended up with 65-70 hp and a 3:1 gearbox with twin Bing carbs swinging a 70" 2...
This site is coming up on its fifth anniversery. I know I have gotten a lot of information from it and I just wanted to take a minute to say thanks to papee, chuck and others who work hard and keep...
Chuck,
Just wondering (some more). I found a youtube video of an Airgator boat actually adjusting on the fly to the point where the boat actually reversed direction (backed up). Is this possible...
Chuck,
Just wondering, I notice with my Briggs that there is a lot of stress on the engine at start-up trying to swing the prop. If George takes all the pitch out of the prop would that relieve the...
I have decided to swap out the engine on one of my minis. Both currently are running Briggs 35 hp with 1.7:1 reductions. Scott Holland and John O'Neill are putting together Rotax packages with gear...
I will chime in on the Briggs, I have two (but that is changing as we speak - more on this on another thread). A Briggs Vanguard 35 hp new around $2350, Arrowprop reduction new around $ 750, Prop...
You might want to search "air jonboat" and see what some option are. In my opinion, you may not be happy wanting to get 20 mph with two guys and gear in a heavy jonboat with cage motor and prop....
The rotax will work in an airboat. The prop will not. With some hulls a two seater is very doable, depending on what you expect to do with the boat and water conditions where you run. I would suggest...
check SA post
Hey Papee,
Looks like a fun time on the river! Just a suggestion, loose lines on the bow and a spinning prop on the aft could spell trouble. I saw the after incident of a prop eating a line and it...
WOW!!! Les should be really proud. Chuck, you keep turning out quality stuff, way to go!!!
