Wow Papee, what beast and looks built to last. Came out of a Jeep? Can't wait to see what you have in mind….
I see. Well thought out, I must say. Looking forward to seeing the finished product……I love to see the attention to detail!
Procedure? You mean like a plan? Not a chance….actually, thanks, you got me thinking about it. I plan on installing 5 stringers or various sizes, and 5 bulkheads ( two of which will double as...
Very Slick Corky! Is that bow light battery powered? I don't see any wires……...
Hey guys, thanks for the kind words! Here it is out of the mold. Very flimsy right now, but I am building under the premise it's the fiberglass that provides the strength, not the wood. I've...
Great topic. I don't plan on using poly on my new hull, but will be using some sort of coating on the bottom. I have to paint it anyway...........
To Make a long process short, here it is all glassed up, and edges trimmed off. Still applying a few skim coats of epoxy to smooth it out. Hopefully cured in a couple of days and I can remove it...
That shiny stuff is plastic packing tape. Covered every bit of the mold (all the pink parts) we do not want the fiberglass to stick to. Act as a mold release.
Here it is all shaped up with the bottom in place.....the boat, not my daughter. :&&: Ready for fiberglass.....
I debated about rounding the transom or keeping it flat. The boat is still 6ft. wide and the flat is about 4.5 wide. Kinda looks like the lake buggy design. Decided on a flatter transom hoping for...
OK. Not quite ready for paint yet as I had hoped, but progress has been steady. I used pink foam insulation panels and spray adhesive to make a box to make the mold with, and then started cutting...
Thanks Papee. Since my last post I have researched chine styles quite a bit. I had thought that 'hard chine' meant same as 'no chine' as you have on your boat. I was wrong. Agreed, I will not be...
Those of us who have been around this site for a while know your health and knees have kept you from doing the things you love. So happy to hear about the stimulator giving you some relief! ...
Ha! I'm kind of the other way around! I gather all the parts and then decide what to build. Ready, fire, aim..... I've purchased foam, fiberglass, resin, and a lot of misc stuff so I'm...
I'm a little apprehensive about putting this out there, but I am going to build a 'custom' Tomcat hull. Remember the saying 'if I new then what i know now'? I am starting over with that in mind. ...
When the Fatcat had a VW motor the prop was mounted on the generator side of the engine. I have heard also that the motor may be better suited to having the prop mounted on the flywheel side, but...
Hey,
Half drunk? What do you mean half drunk? We would never settle for that! We do things right up here in the great white north! As far as 300 Win. Mag, that's nuttin' compared to Betty Lou,...
Oooooo... a car motor! And a VW to boot! Can't wait to hear more............getting chilly here too.
Looking good Madscientist! I'm excited to see how it turns out! Keep the pics coming........bruce
When I originally bought the Fatcat it was running an unmodified 1600cc VW motor, direct drive, and had a 52 x 26 two blade wooden prop on it. The prop was damaged, so I never ran it. I do not know...
I like the idea too! I spent some time researching this when I built the Fatcat, although I was more interested in noise suppression. "shrouded propellers" is still and interesting topic and I'm...
CRus, I see you have a pretty good idea of what you want your boat to do! That's a great start. Surf around the site a bit, there's lots of good information in here! Guys who have tried...
Welcome! You have come to the right place. There's a ton of good information here and experienced air boaters willing to help....Flathead
Wanted: Combee Tomcat hull. Price depending on condition. Would consider buying an entire boat for the right hull. Thanks, bkewen@midco.net

I think you're on the right track there. Heck, I did not even know anyone offered flat bottom hull kits! Based on my limited experience, don't compromise on your hull or power plant. A mini...
