Chuck,

My engine from Mike came with the carb mounted forward like you have on Scorpy... Since I got to look harder at mine I noticed you ran the throttle cable through a custom bracket on the front.... What was the reason for doing this instead of running it through the guide that comes on the carb? I see that you would have to run it next to the motor then turn into the guide but I don't see why that would cause any problems.

The standard hookup uses a small motorcyle cable and i wanted a more durable setup due to hooking to a pedal instead of a hand grip. By making a bracket to bolt on the carb, i can hook my marine cable out far enough to give me more pedal movement. I also put a throttle stop under the pedal to keep from too much push on the pedal causing damage to the carb.
Thanks, Chuck

That is what I thought... it looked that way... I need to talk to Faron to see what he plans to use. Wondering if the carb hookeup can be modified to accept a different cable.

I just made my bracket from a pcs of aluminum angle and coped it to fit. Maybe some closeup pictures will help.

In this last picture, you want need the hook bracket i bolted on the throttle bracket unless you break your pump adjuster like i did.

Thanks Chuck....

I will most likely just use a motorcycle throttle cable.... I think that is what was used on the origninal mini that Faron built.

Yes I see the Accelerator Pump Lever is plastic... Is that what broke on yours?

Yes, the backside where the adjustment screw sets, the tab broke off. The bolt on bracket we made fixed it.
Thanks, Chuck

Chuck,

Since these motors are air cooled and not really designed with a prop pulling all that air in mind... Have you tested without the front fan assembly? Wondering if I could gain a few RPM and an extra HP or two. And get the cooling across the engine still.

That is the next test we are going to do. We have the motor off of Scorpy now to pull the heads and check it. We plan on leaving all the covers and the cooling fan off when we put it back together.
Thanks, Chuck

Great minds sure do think alike.... I love having an experimental boat to play around with just wish it would get here already. Do you have any case temperatures as your baseline? Or are you planing on putting a tap in the case for a temperature sensor or just use a laser thermometer.

Better idea... Since the motor has two oil drain plugs could it be possible to use that for an oil temperature sender. Just an idea but may not get accurate temps. May have to put a tap at the oil filter with a spacer block similar to this one.

I don,t see any problem with using one of the oil drain plugs for oil temp. A water temp sender will also work with oil.
