What motor and gear box would you put on a mini? there are a lot of differnt sizes,or would a 35 brig or the 40 kor. be the way to go?

Hey Silversurfer, We have been using the 35 HP Briggs. We get on plane easy and on ower hull we can run aprox. 32 miles
per hour. I know the Rotax will work good but they are expensive. We just got a 4A084 millitary generater engine in yesterday. It is 20 HP but we think we can get aprox 40 HP out of it. We are going to do a project boat to see how it
performs. It's good to see you posting again. Thanks, Chuck

Hey Silversurfer, I haven't tried a rotax yet, but with the power to weight ratio, it would perform really great. I will make
some calls tomorrow and try to get a handle on shipping. Thanks, Chuck

Rotax engines work very well on minis but yes, they can be expensive compared to a briggs or kohler.
Some Rotax options are:

Engines:
503 Dual Carb Single Ignition (Points Motor)= 52 HP
503 Dual Carb Dual Ignition (Electronic Ignition)= 52 HP
582 Blue Head (Water Cooled) = 64 HP
618 (Water Cooled) = approximately 75 HP
583 (Water Cooled) = 97 HP (High Performance motor)

Also available, but I'm not sure on these engine hp ratings: 277 | 377 | 447 | 532 | 912 | 914

Gear Reduction Drives:
B Box - 2.0:1, 2.24:1, 2.58:1
C Box - 2.62:1, 3.0:1, 3.47:1, 4.0:1
E Box - 2.62:1, 3.0:1, 3.47:1 (This gearbox has a starter mounted on it)

Note: From my own experience, I will never run another rotax without having a clutch installed.
